Voices from the Field with Jonathan Vander Els: Kathy White

In this podcast, we are joined by Kathy White, Dean of Instruction for Souhegan High School in Amherst, NH. Kathy will discuss how distance learning has evolved at Souhegan HS, including how the initial schedule that was developed was created by a team of administrators and teachers together, with the intent of reducing feelings of being overwhelmed, and clear guardrails for what “in-class” means.

Ms. White also discusses their “no-harm” approach to grading, with the continuation of letter grades for year-long courses in which students had submitted a body of evidence, and Pass/No Credit approach for semester courses that had just begun. Kathy also discusses their “next steps” conversations about focusing on essential standards, these critical learning targets that will focus the work of teachers and students moving forward.
